Saturday, December 11, 2010 Shrine of the Black Madonna Bookstore and Cultural Center
Oronde had the distinct honor of returning home to Detroit, Michigan for the official launch of Facing The Rising Sun. This very successful and emotionally moving reading and celebration was held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Shrine of the Black Madonna Bookstore and Cultural Center in the heart of Detroit.
Joining Oronde for this event were his brother, parents and other family members, as well as the founding Executive Director and several current staff members of Homes for Black Children, the adoption agency through which Oronde and his brother, Khari Miller, were placed for adoption. Also in attendance were former colleagues from Casey Family Programs, who traveled from various parts of the country to be there for this exciting occasion, and a number of classmates from grade school, middle school and high school. The occasion was a reunion, in many ways, of the various individuals that have been very much responsible for shaping Oronde's understanding of child development, family and community.
